MEV servicing and repair
Mechanical extract ventilation
A mechanical extract ventilation (MEV) system uses a central fan, usually located in a cupboard or ceiling void, to extract stale, moist air from kitchens, bathrooms and other wet rooms through a network of ducts.
If the unit is not maintained, dust and dirt can build up and reduce its ability to extract air effectively. An annual service is generally recommended.
What a service includes
- Cleaning the unit and fan
- Replacing the filters, where fitted
- Checking the operation and settings
When to arrange a visit
- The unit has become noticeably louder
- Condensation or mould is appearing in wet rooms
- Extract grilles are visibly dirty
- The system has not been serviced in the last 12 months
Frequently asked questions
How often should an MEV system be serviced?
We recommend a full service every 12 months, or as advised by the manufacturer.
What does the £90 diagnostic visit include?
Our engineer will inspect the system to identify the fault. Where a repair can be carried out during the visit, they will discuss this with you; otherwise, we will provide a written quotation for the repair.
