Filters
MVHR units contain filters on both the supply and extract sides. They protect the heat exchanger and fans from dust and debris, and they gradually become blocked. We recommend checking the filters every six months, and replacing them at least once a year or as advised by the manufacturer.
As filters become blocked, the fans have to work harder to move the same amount of air. This can make the system noisier and less effective. Many controllers display a filter warning when a change is due.
Annual service
A full service is generally recommended every 12 months. Our MVHR service includes:
- Replacing the filters
- Cleaning the unit, fans and heat exchanger
- Inspecting the condensate drain
- Checking the controls and boost settings
- Advising you on how to operate your system
Between services
- Keep the system switched on. MVHR is designed to run continuously.
- Use the boost setting when cooking or bathing, if your system has one.
- Avoid adjusting the ceiling or wall valves, as these are set when the system is commissioned.
- Keep valves and grilles free from obstruction.
When to call us
If the unit has become noticeably louder or is showing a fault, or if condensation has returned, a diagnostic visit may be needed. Our MVHR page has details of the diagnostic visit and our servicing.
